Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, and protect information when you use financialconfidence.net.

Last updated: October 10, 2026

Financial Confidence is operated by Financial Confidence, an Indiana sole proprietorship (“Financial Confidence,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through financialconfidence.net (the “Site”), how we use and share it, and the choices available to you. It should be read together with our Disclaimer and Terms of Use.

1. Scope of this Policy

This Policy covers information collected through the Site, including our lessons and Courses, blog, interactive calculators and worksheets (collectively, the “Tools”), and the optional account, progress-tracking, and certificate features described in Section 6. It does not cover information practices of third-party sites we link to, which are governed by those sites’ own policies.

2. Information collected automatically

Like most websites, the Site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use it, so we can see which lessons and Tools are helpful and where the Site needs improvement. Google Analytics automatically collects information such as your approximate location (typically city or region, derived from your IP address), device and browser type, pages viewed, time spent on the Site, and the site that referred you. This information is aggregated and is not used by us to identify you individually.

In addition to this automatic collection, a small number of specific actions also send a named event to Google Analytics so we can see, in aggregate, how many visitors complete them: searching the Site (site_search, with the search term and number of results), creating an account (sign_up), passing a lesson quiz (quiz_passed, with the course and lesson), and earning a course certificate (certificate_earned, with the course). These events are processed by Google under the same Google Analytics terms described above and are not used by us to identify you individually.

We do not currently use advertising, retargeting, or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell your information.

3. Analytics we collect ourselves

Separately from Google Analytics, the Site also logs certain usage information directly to our own database, so we can see which content and features are helping people even without a third-party analytics provider involved. This includes: which blog articles and informational pages (including this one) are opened and roughly how long the tab stays open; which calculator or worksheet a Tool session completes; search terms typed into the Site’s search bar and which result, if any, was clicked afterward; which button (Facebook, email, copy link, or your device’s own share menu, described further in Section 9) is used to share a page, and which page it was; whether someone clicked “Yes” or “No” on a “Was this helpful?” prompt on a lesson, Tool, or blog post, and which piece of content it was about; when a signed-out visitor clicks a lesson in search results that requires signing in or isn’t unlocked yet for their account, and which lesson it was; and, when the Site itself returns a “page not found” error, the web address that did not resolve and what referred the visitor to it, so we can fix broken or outdated links.

Blog views, informational-page views, search activity, share-button clicks, “Was this helpful?” votes, and page-not-found errors are recorded anonymously — we do not attach your name, email, or account to this information, and have no way to use it to identify you. Tool completions, and a lesson-in-search-results click that requires signing in, are recorded the same way when you are not signed in. If you are signed in, either event is linked to your account internally so we can see, in aggregate only, patterns like how many signed-in users finish a given Tool or run into a locked lesson; we do not display or export this broken out by name. This information is stored with Supabase, our database provider described further in Section 6, and is accessible only to Financial Confidence’s site owner.

Anonymous browser ID and spam protection. To tell real visitors apart from automated programs (bots and scanners), and to count a “Was this helpful?” vote only once per person per page, the Site stores a random, anonymous identifier in your browser’s local storage (named fc_vid) and attaches it to the usage events described above. It contains no personal information, is not linked to your name, email, or account, and is not used for advertising. Activity that looks automated is flagged and left out of our statistics. If you choose to create an account, the sign-up form may also use a hidden form field, a timing check, and optionally Cloudflare Turnstile to screen out automated sign-ups; if Turnstile is enabled, Cloudflare receives limited technical information from your browser to run that check. You can remove the identifier at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

4. Information stored in your browser by our Tools

Most of our calculators and worksheets run entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter are used only to calculate the results shown on your screen and are never sent to us or stored on our servers, with one exception: if you purchase the optional AI-generated analysis described in Section 5, the inputs and results for that specific Tool session are sent to our servers so we can generate it. No other Tool activity, and no Tool session where you do not purchase an AI analysis, is ever sent to us.

Most of our Tools save what you enter in your browser’s local storage, so your entries are still there if you close the tab and come back later — this is now the standard behavior across nearly all of our calculators and worksheets, not the exception. This information stays on your own device. It is never transmitted to Financial Confidence or to any third party, and we have no ability to see, retrieve, or recover it. Depending on the Tool, this can include the figures and answers you type in, multi-step worksheet progress, and, for a small number of Tools such as the Credit Improvement Roadmap, narrative details like contact information used to fill in letter templates. Every Tool that saves data locally asks you not to enter Social Security numbers, complete account numbers, passwords, or other highly sensitive data, and nothing you enter into any Tool is sent to us or stored on our servers, whether or not you finish it.

You can remove information saved by a Tool at any time by clearing your browser’s site data or cookies for financialconfidence.net, or by using the Tool’s own reset option if one is provided — most Tools that save data locally include a “Clear my data from this device” button that does this for you.

5. Information you provide directly

If you email us at hello@financialconfidence.net, we receive your email address and whatever else you include in your message. We use this only to respond to you and to keep a record of the correspondence.

If you create an account, we collect your first name, last name, email address, and password at sign-up, as described in the next section. If you sign up using an organization code provided to you by an employer or other organization partnered with Financial Confidence, we also collect that code, as described in Section 6. The Site does not currently offer newsletter signup.

Some Tools offer an optional, one-time AI-generated analysis of your results for $1.99. If you purchase one, we collect the email address you provide at checkout, the specific inputs and results from that Tool session, and the AI-generated analysis itself, so we can process your payment and deliver your result to you. This purchase does not require an account, and we do not use the email address collected this way for marketing.

Some blog posts offer an optional, one-time $1.99 “Ask a Question” purchase. If you purchase one, we collect the question text you type (and any follow-up questions), the AI-generated answers, the blog post you asked from, the email address you provide to Stripe at checkout, and whether you asked for an emailed copy. We also record a confirmation that you acknowledged the educational-use notice, a one-way hashed (not readable) form of your network address, and the anonymous browser ID described in Section 2, which we use only to prevent abuse and automated misuse. Please do not include personal or sensitive information in your questions (such as names, addresses, Social Security, account, or card numbers, or passwords); we ask this because anything you type is sent to our AI provider and stored as described below. This purchase does not require an account, and we do not use the email address collected this way for marketing.

6. Accounts, progress tracking, and certificates

You do not need an account to read the Blog or use any Tool — those remain free and open to everyone. An account is only required to access our Courses (lessons and final exams) and to track your progress through them.

When you create an account, we collect and store:

We use this information solely to operate the account, progress-tracking, and certificate features: authenticating you when you log in, calculating and displaying your progress, grading exams, and issuing certificates. We do not use your account information for advertising and do not sell it.

This data is stored with Supabase, our database and authentication provider, which acts as a data processor on our behalf and is bound by its own security and privacy commitments. Our database is configured with row-level security so that your account data (profile, progress, quiz history, and certificates) can only be read by your own signed-in account, not by other users, and exam answer keys are kept in a separate, locked-down location that no account, including yours, can read directly — exams are graded through a secure function that returns only your score, never the answer key.

A certificate of completion reflects that you passed a course’s final exam on our Site. It is not a professional license, credential, or accreditation, consistent with our Disclaimer.

Organization codes. Some employers and organizations partner with Financial Confidence to make the Site available to their members, and give those members a code to enter at sign-up. If you enter a valid organization code when you create your account, we link your account to that organization internally, and, as described in Section 9, we may report your course sign-up and completion status back to that organization so it can verify participation. Entering an organization code is optional; if you leave this field blank, or the code you enter is not recognized, your account is not linked to any organization. Being linked to an organization does not change what account information we collect, and the organization does not receive your password or gain the ability to log in as you.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files a site asks your browser to store. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies to distinguish visitors and sessions. If you have an account, our authentication provider also stores a session token in your browser so you stay signed in between visits; this token is used only to recognize your session and is not shared with advertisers. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on to prevent your visits from being included in Analytics. Blocking cookies may affect how some features of the Site behave, including staying signed in, though our Tools will still calculate correctly since they run in your browser regardless of cookie settings.

8. How we use information

We use the information described above to operate and improve the Site, understand which Content and Tools are useful, diagnose technical problems, respond to messages sent to us, and — for account holders — authenticate you, track your course progress, grade exams, and issue certificates. If you purchase an AI-generated Tool analysis, we use the inputs and results from that Tool session to generate and deliver the analysis to you, and your email address to process payment and to deliver or re-send that result to you if needed. If you purchase a blog “Ask a Question” answer, we use your question and the related article to generate, quality-check, and deliver your answers, your email address to process payment and (if you ask) to email you a copy, and the abuse-prevention information described in Section 5 to block automated misuse. We automatically screen submitted questions for abusive, illegal, personal, or unrelated content before you are charged. We do not use it to make decisions about your eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another legally protected opportunity, and we ask that you not use the Site to make those decisions about anyone else, consistent with our Terms of Use.

9. How information is shared

We share aggregated analytics information with Google, which processes it on our behalf under Google’s own privacy terms, as our analytics provider. Account, progress, certificate, and the internal usage data described in Section 3 are stored with Supabase, our database and authentication provider, as described in Section 6. If you signed up using a partner organization’s code, we may share your name, sign-up date, and course completion status with that organization, for the purpose of letting them verify their members’ participation and progress. We do not share your email address, password, quiz scores, or any information beyond course-level completion status with a partner organization, and we do not give partner organizations direct login access to the Site or to our database. If you purchase an AI-generated Tool analysis, your payment is processed by Stripe, and the specific inputs and results from that Tool session are sent to Anthropic, our AI provider, solely to generate your analysis; both act as data processors on our behalf and do not use your information for their own advertising. If you purchase a blog “Ask a Question” answer, your payment is likewise processed by Stripe, the text of your question, the related article, and any earlier questions and answers in the same purchase are sent to Anthropic solely to screen your question and generate and check your answer, and, if you choose the emailed copy, your email address and the answers are sent through Resend, our email delivery provider, to deliver that email. Each acts as a processor on our behalf. If you click the “Share on Facebook” button on a Tool or blog post, the page’s web address is sent to Facebook to open its share dialog; what Facebook does with that address afterward is governed by Facebook’s own privacy policy, not ours. The Email, Copy Link, and device-share options next to it do not send anything to us or to a third party — they use your own email application, clipboard, or device’s built-in share menu. We do not sell personal information and do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or valid legal process, to protect the rights, property, or safety of Financial Confidence or others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law.

10. Data retention

Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ standard retention settings. The internal usage data described in Section 3 (blog and informational-page views, search activity, tool completions, share-button clicks, “Was this helpful?” votes, locked-lesson search clicks, and page-not-found errors) is retained indefinitely in aggregate to track trends over time, since it is anonymous or, for the events that can be linked to a signed-in account, only ever reviewed in aggregate. Emails you send us are kept as long as reasonably needed to respond to and document the correspondence. Information saved locally by a Tool remains in your browser until you clear it, clear your browser data, or use the Tool’s own reset option; we have no ability to retrieve or delete it for you since we never receive it. Account, progress, quiz, certificate, and sign-up-source data is retained for as long as your account remains active. If you request deletion of your account, we delete your profile (including any sign-up-source information attached to it), progress records, quiz history, and certificate records within a reasonable time, except where we are required to retain information by law. If you purchase an AI-generated Tool analysis, we retain the email address, Tool inputs, and generated analysis tied to that purchase for as long as reasonably needed to support the purchase (for example, to help you if your result doesn’t arrive) and for our own recordkeeping, and you may request deletion of that data at any time as described in Section 11. Blog “Ask a Question” purchases are handled differently: the text of your questions and answers and your email address are permanently deleted from our systems 14 days after purchase. We keep only non-content records of the purchase (date, amount, blog post, status, and Stripe reference, plus the hashed abuse-prevention data) for refunds, dispute handling, security, and bookkeeping. Emails already sent to you are outside our control once delivered, and Anthropic, Stripe, and Resend retain data under their own policies.

11. Your choices

You can control cookies and site data through your browser settings, opt out of Google Analytics using the add-on linked above, and clear any information a Tool has saved locally by clearing your browser’s site data. If you have an account, you can un-mark individual lessons as complete at any time from within the lesson, and you can ask us, by emailing hello@financialconfidence.net, to (a) confirm whether we are processing your personal information and give you a copy of it, (b) correct inaccuracies, (c) delete it, or (d) provide it to you in a portable, commonly used format. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

Indiana’s Consumer Data Protection Act gives Indiana residents the rights described above, plus the right to opt out of the sale of personal data, targeted advertising, and certain kinds of automated profiling, once a business meets that law’s applicability thresholds. Financial Confidence does not currently meet those thresholds, and in any event we do not sell personal information, run targeted advertising, or use automated profiling of the kind that law addresses — but we will still honor a request described in this section from anyone who contacts us, regardless of where you live or whether the law technically applies to us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights regarding personal information under other applicable law; we will honor valid requests to the extent required.

12. Children’s privacy

The Site, including account creation, is not directed to children and is intended for users who meet the eligibility requirement in our Terms of Use. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at hello@financialconfidence.net so we can address it.

13. Security

We use reasonable measures intended to protect information related to the Site, including relying on reputable hosting, database, authentication, and analytics providers. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider and are never visible to us in readable form, and account data is protected by row-level security rules that limit access to your own signed-in account, as described in Section 6. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, and we ask that you never enter Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, full payment-card information, or other sensitive data into the Site, including into your account profile. If a security incident occurs that compromises unencrypted personal information in a way that triggers notification under Indiana law or other applicable law, we will notify affected individuals and any required regulator as and when the law requires.

14. Third-party links

The Site may link to third-party websites, products, or services. Those third parties have their own privacy practices, and we encourage you to review their policies. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of sites we do not operate.

15. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes to the Site, our practices, or applicable law. The “Last updated” date identifies the most recent revision. When required by law, or when a change is material, we will provide additional notice.

16. Contact us

Questions about this Privacy Policy, or requests to access or delete your account information, may be sent to hello@financialconfidence.net.

In short: we use Google Analytics to see how the Site is used, including a few named events like signing up or passing a quiz, we do not sell your information, and none of our Tools send what you type to us, though most Tools save your entries in your own browser so they are there when you come back — that data never reaches our servers. We also log a small amount of anonymous usage data ourselves — which blog posts and pages are read, which Tools are completed, what people search for, which share button gets clicked, “Was this helpful?” votes, and broken-link (404) errors — none of it tied to your name or email. Clicking “Share on Facebook” sends that page’s address to Facebook; the Email, Copy Link, and device-share options do not send anything to anyone. If you create an account to access Courses, we store your name, email, a securely hashed password, your lesson/exam progress, and, if you arrived via a tagged link, which link brought you here — all with our database provider, Supabase, protected so only you can read it — and you can request a copy, a correction, or deletion of that data at any time.
